Early Life and Musical Training

Shreya Ghoshal was born on March 12, 1984, in Berhampore, Murshidabad district, West Bengal. She spent her childhood in Rawatbhata, Rajasthan. She began her initial musical training under her mother at the age of just four. Later, she underwent rigorous training in classical music under the guidance of accomplished mentors such as the late Padma Shri Kalyanji Virji Shah and Mukta Bhide. Recognizing her extraordinary talent, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali gave her the opportunity to sing for the 2002 film *Devdas*. At the age of just sixteen, she gained nationwide acclaim through timeless songs like "Bairi Piya," "Dola Re Dola," and "Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka." She set a unique precedent by winning both the National Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her very first film.
