From the 90s crush to the OTT-shattering diva: Raveena Tandon's incredible fight on celluloid and in reality

 

It is very natural to get lost in the crowd of talents in the silver world of Bollywood. However, there are some stars who shine in their own glory even when the wheels of circumstances turn. Raveena Tandon is one such evergreen and indomitable name in Hindi cinema.

Once upon a time, the whole of India used to dance to her tunes, her acting is equally captivating the audience in the current era of OTT platforms. She is not only a glamorous heroine, but also a National Award-winning actress and a brave single mother in real life. Her own life story is much more exciting and inspiring than any cinematic script.

1. Those days of tireless work and funny 'pranks' with Karisma Her journey in Bollywood started with the film 'Patthar Ke Phool' in 1991.  After that, she made a place in the hearts of the audience by giving superhit films like 'Mohra' and 'Laadla'. Her iconic dance in a yellow saree against the backdrop of rain is still one of the best romantic songs in the history of Hindi cinema.

However, the story behind the success of that time was one of immense hardship. Both Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor have shared that in the nineties, they used to work up to 36 hours out of 24 hours. They had to shoot 4 to 6 films in the same day in consecutive shifts. Costume changes were done while driving or on the way!

Their famous slogan of not speaking on the sets of 'Andaz Apna Apna' was broken by a funny incident. During one night's shooting, the two of them were tied to a pillar with their backs to each other. Then, during the dinner break, everyone in the unit made fun of them and left them in that state!  After being stuck for a long time, Raveena herself, hungry and tired, first asked Karisma—"Juice piyegi?" (Juice piyegi?). That's it, all the ice that had accumulated melted there and their friendship began.

2. Awkward decision: When a single mother was at the peak of her career, Raveena had the courage to show the thumbs up to society not only on screen but also in real life. In 1995, when she was at the peak of her popularity, at the age of just 21, she decided to adopt two daughters (Pooja and Chhaya) all alone.

Even in today's progressive society, it is quite difficult for an unmarried woman to take such a decision. Raveena showed that mental strength three decades ago. Ignoring the fear of how it would affect her career, she raised her two daughters with her motherly love.

3.  Raveena, who left behind the glamour shell and won the 'National Award' and 'Padma Shri', did not remain confined to the romantic heroine of commercial films. Critics were stunned by her performance as a housewife who is a victim of marital violence in the film 'Daman' released in 2001. Due to this excellent performance, she won the National Film Award for Best Actress. Later, in recognition of her long artistic contribution, the Indian government awarded her the prestigious 'Padma Shri'.

4. Personal storm and the beginning of a new chapterIn the mid-nineties, the news of her love and engagement with Akshay Kumar was the biggest topic of discussion in B-town. However, that relationship did not end happily. After coping with that big shock in her personal life and the media's taunts, Raveena reorganized herself. Later, she built a happy family with film distributor Anil Thadani.  Currently, she is by her side as an ideal mentor and mother as her daughter Rasha Thadani steps into Bollywood.

5. The new queen of OTT and current busyness It is impossible to believe that age is just a number without seeing Raveena. Her royal performance as the dapper police officer Kasturi Dogra in Netflix's 'Aranyak' series or as a grey shade in 'Karma Calling' has proven that the OTT platform's rush is now in her hands.

Currently, she is busy on the big screen too. On the one hand, she is reuniting with Akshay Kumar after a long time in the multi-starrer comedy drama 'Welcome to the Jungle', while on the other hand, she is ready to surprise in the South's pan-India film 'Vishwanath and Sons'. Outside the silver screen, she has repeatedly proven that she is a true fighter by speaking out against the trolling of her co-stars.
